‘Tis the season to start thinking about a better opportunity for me to share some steps that I am planning to take in order to achieve my 2019 goals. Below I am sharing the five things that I am detoxing from in 2019.
1. Single Use Plastic
Straws, water bottles, coffee cup lids – you name it, it’s probably made out of single-use plastic. But as I grow more conscious of my eco-footprint, I am becoming more and more aware of the amount of single-use plastic we use. Whilst it’s currently impossible to be completely plastic free, a growing awareness is something to bear in mind! To start with, I am using only paper straws, carry a reusable coffee cup and always carry my own BPA free water bottles!
2. Screen Time
Living in a technology fuelled world makes cutting down screen time seems pretty impossible (especially if you work in front of a computer screen like me), but by trying to balance out screen time at work with the time away from technology is so important! Not only does this mean we are exposed to potentially damaging blue-light but it can also impact our state of wellbeing. To begin with, I am trying to eliminate scrolling aimlessly on Instagram especially first thing in the morning and before going to bed. Instead, I am reading before going to bed, limiting the time I binge-watch Netflix and have adjusted my screens to night mode.
3. Poor Nutrition
Detoxing from poor nutrition is one the goals that people roll their eyes at, but for me, it’s purely about recognizing how certain foods make me feel. Whilst I am a total advocate for a Friday Night Pizza Night, I am also the fan of ensuring that I feed my body with nutrient-dense foods. Balance is key in this instance so I am willing to try a new colorful and nutritionally dense recipe a couple of times a week and see what type of difference it makes!
4. My Environment
Whether this manifests itself in the form of my work desk or my bedroom, my environment and space can often reflect my current state of mind. This calls for a bit of tidying up and in certain areas a serious clear out, my goal is a more organized approach to my space in 2019.
5. Friendships and Relationships
I am all for the mantra “Your vibe attracts your tribe”, but as much as this is relevant, the people you surround yourself with can have an impact upon your state of mind. I am not planning on cutting anyone off, I am just making sure that the people I spend the most time with are those who have a positive impact and aren’t emotionally draining.
