FINDING THE PERFECT SHADE OF PINK…
Spring is fast approaching and with it comes a variety of new colors and shades for us to play with and explore! So I have put together the ultimate guide to help you find the perfect shade of pink lipstick!
WHAT’S YOUR SKIN UNDERTONE?
This is very important when choosing the right shade of pink for you, as pink is quite a tricky shade. Too dark and it can look tasteless, too light and it will wash you out, so it needs to be just right. So have a look at your wrists – what color are your veins? If your veins are blue – you need to look for cool-toned pink. If your veins are green – you need to look for warmly toned pinks. Lastly, if your veins are like a rainbow and seem to have both green and blue – then you are lucky, it is very likely that any shade will fit your skin tone.
A. COOL-TONED SHADE OF PINK
The cool-toned pinks are the pinks with blue and purple undertones – still confused? Us too. These are defined as real pinks. So you need to lean towards colors like lavender, magenta, hot pink, rosy pink and purple toned pink.
BABY PINK: MAC Lipstick Matte in Please Me • $18.50
NUDE PINK: Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Lips Liquid Lipstick in Platinum Blonde • $25

B. WARM TONED SHADE OF PINK
Warm pinks are the ones with a yellow and orange undertone, so you need to reach out for peachy, corally pinks, nude pinks and orange toned pinks. It follows the same rule as above, by laying two of the same undertones you will intensify the color and make your look appear more intense!

AN INTELLECTUAL MINUTE
Why may you ask? Let’s talk about art and colors for two seconds.
Yellow and purple are complementary colors, and so are green and red and blue and orange. It means that if your skin has a blue undertone and you compliment it with a shade of pink that contains a yellow undertone, it will cancel out the color and make your lip shade look washed out and will clash with your skin tone. Whereas if you select a cool pink with orange undertones, it will stand out and complement your natural skin tone to give you your perfect shade!
